Assanah Binsulong,Teacher, Narathiwat Province, Thailand: “The challenges of being a MTB-MLE(Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education) teacher is undergoing a very hard training by teachers who have experience in multilingual education, since the MTB-MLE program is a new teaching approach in Thailand. Even though I have to work harder, I am happy when I see the children are happier and are doing better in class. Interestingly, a mother came to me and asked why I don’t use this approach to teach the other classes, as I teach her younger child. The mother then explained that the younger one has attended the bilingual program since kindergarten and the younger is doing better in school than the elder who has not.”
